A Little Herb Trivia:

It has been asserted that a Marigold flower (Calendula), rubbed on the affected part, is an admirable remedy for the pain and swelling caused by the sting of a wasp or bee. (Also excellent for cuts, ant bites, or itchiness from mosquitoes or eczema). Lotion made from the flowers is most useful for sprains and wounds, and a water distilled from them is good for inflamed and sore eyes. (Calendula infusion dries the skin and draws out poison from bad spider bites-I learned this from experience!)

In France, it is normal for most households to keep a bottle of Essence of Lavender as a domestic remedy against bruises, bites and trivial aches and pains, both external and internal.
